Tips and Guides on how to prevent compulsive smartphone usage in teens
Let's face it in this generation every teenager around the globe comes with phone glued to them.
Giving them a new power known as Screenagers, nothing can stop them not even your favorite Superhero.
As we know technology is the base for every kind of work, education and your daily day to day activities, so it's important to stay updated. With the whole pandemic situation now it's has drastically changed every one's lives.
Especially children, teenagers their whole routine has changed, their part of the day goes by attending online classes and doing home work on their laptops, and the rest of the day spending time on their phone.
I mean it's just a phone there is no harm in it, right? Of course, it will not affect like alcoholism level toxicity but this has serious disadvantages, lack of physical exercise, strained eyes, Imbalanced diet and sleep. It can cause disagreement within family and major behavioral issues.
So now this is a trouble, yelling at them and forcefully making them stay away from phones will make it even worse. You have to ensure you understand and you can be their friend too.
I have listed down few better ways of handling such situations which is good for both you and your teenager.
- Instead of controlling and monitoring them 24/7 which might make them feel like we ruling over them. Engage them in physical classes i.e. like football classes, badminton etc. It is good both for your brain and body.
- Limit their screen time, this is a hard one but some teenagers know to use smartphones in a healthy way. So try talking to them how on to limit their usage and help them. installing parental control app on their devices which will be of a great help in this process
- Reclaim you family time make sure you ask them to not use phone while having family dinners, holidays or trip, a phone free environment.
- Make them explore their talents during their free time and encourage them on molding it, if they are good at painting buy them their necessities for it.
- Most teenagers who are addicted to their phone are known have low self esteem, so before things gets worse you need to make sure they don't dwell in their dark side. Engage with them make proper conversations and respect their decisions , this will make them feel heard and needed.
- It would be good if you as parents spend quality time and have to ensure that you don't stay on your phones or get caught up with work while spending time with them.
- If your teenager seems beyond ways please reach out to a professional therapy which will help them in valuing their time and themselves.
